NEWS FROM THE PONIES CLASS:  April in the Pony room was busy.  We began the month learning about different kinds of eggs.  We found out that humming birds lay the smallest eggs and ostriches lay the largest.  We even got to see some real eggs including the enormous ostrich egg!  We did several different egg activities including egg painting.  Just within the last two weeks, one of the ducks at Country Day even made her own nest right outside our door.  It has been exciting to see!

We spent some time learning about weather, especially “April showers!”  We learned where rain comes from and talked about the cycle of water.  We made our own rain clouds and umbrellas.  We even went on a hunt for Rainbows, although the April weather hasn’t given us a lot of rainbow opportunities!  We have spent lots of time outside.  The Ponies were so excited to get the big cars out and have had a great time chasing bubbles all around!

The Ponies became published authors and illustrators this month when we wrapped up our ABC Book.  After working on these books throughout the year, each child was excited to complete the cover and title page and finally have their book “Published by Children’s Country Day”.

Trees were our next topic.  We learned about some of the many things that are made from trees, including syrup, paper, rubber, gum and furniture.  We talked about many of the different types of trees we have at Country Day and did some bark rubbings of the trees.  The kids even got to make their own recycled paper.

We ended the month with “The Week of the Young Child”.  We had a lot of fun activities and theme days.  We had stuffed animal day, movie and popcorn day, and ice cream sundae day.  We had a lot of fun celebrating our students and the parents that send them to Country Day!

The month of May will bring the end of our school year.  We will be exploring bees, caterpillars and butterflies, and healthy bodies.  We will be having a special day to celebrate all of our summer birthdays, so be on the lookout for more information on this!

Have a great month! ~Carrie and Lora
